Colon Cleanse : Dump The Gunk

The Standard American Diet (SAD) can fill you full of all kinds of junk. The body can only handle so much junk and then it just starts to pack it away. It packs it away in fat and also in other deposits like gall stones, arthritic burs, calcium deposits, plaque, and the like.

To clean out your system and get rid of these toxins should be high on your list if you wish to have a good lifestyle. If you search around the Internet, you will find all kinds of colon cleansers and detoxifiers. But which ones are good, and which ones are not?

Well, you need to be careful. Some of the natural methods can be quite severe, cleaning you out too fast. Cleansing herbs can be hard on your system. Safer than drugs, but still a bit caustic.

I prefer the long-term, natural cleanse. That means that you drink plenty of water (body weight in pounds, divided by 10, gives you how many cups of water to consume in a 24 hour period). You also try to eat mostly raw, high-fiber foods: Fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, and good oils (mostly coconut and olive oils).

If you feel really gunked-up and think you need a kick start, you might try the “Master Cleanse”. This is a 3 to 7 day “fast”. If you are new to this kind of thing just try it for 2 or 3 days to start with. You don't eat any solid foods. You just drink lemon water with a little cayenne and maple syrup in it. Now, this is not the kind of maple syrup you find in the grocery store from Aunt Jemima. We are talking about real raw maple syrup, just as it is tapped from the maple trees. You can find it in most health food stores. This also involves a salt water cleanse.

You can read more about the Master Cleanse HERE.

If you are concerned about worms, flukes, or other parasites, then eat plenty of the anti-parasitic foods. These include garlic, onions, black walnuts, turmeric, raw pumpkin seeds, fennel, virgin coconut oil, oil of oregano, thyme, aloe vera gel, and pomegranate juice (juice entire fruit; do not peel; strain afterward).

Also helpful can be cabbage, ginger, horseradish, black currant (root or bark), ginseng, horehound, pineapple, papaya, cinnamon, tomatoes, cayenne, sage, raw sweet potatoes, cranberries, sauerkraut, rosemary, cloves, cumin, raw carrots, and caraway seeds.

So there are many delicious foods you can eat that help you keep your system cleansed and functioning well.

There is one more important thing to think about. You have to get your gut healthy. This means you need to replenish the good and beneficial bacteria that your intestines need, while starving out the bad bacteria at the same time.

To starve out the bad, you need to avoid all processed sugars and artificial sugars. To help out the good, you should use yogurt or kefir daily. Of course, you want to use yogurts and kefirs that are free from artificial sugars, flavors, and colors, as well as ones that contain live bacteria.

Another help for a healthy gut is to add Jerusalem artichoke to your meals. Also avoid alcohol and chlorinated water. They both kill bacteria. That is not what you want in your gut.

All this, of course, is just the basics. Sandy Halliday has put together a ton of information and wonderful recipes that you can use to cleanse your body while still eating delicious meals.
